The Lake of Como and in particular the Alto Lario (the northern zone of the lake) is renowned in all of Europe as an excellent sailing area and not only: this is the most windy area of the lake and the most unspoilt; from March to October, the Breva, a common temperate breeze of the Lake of Como, blows during the afternoons, guaranteeing uttermost enjoyment to those who practise sports such as sailing, windsurfing or new extreme sports such as Kitesurfing. When the lake is calm (morning and early evening), it is also possible to go water-skiing and canoeing.
The area offers numerous alpine destinations and several trekking and mountain bike trails. These are immersed in the peace of secular woods which together with mountains and alpine lakes bestow unique views to the tourist. There are also many horse-riding centres in the area where you can set off on guided excursions on horse back inside the natural reserve of Pian di Spagna.
The Lake Como and particularly the central and northern regions of the lake represent a vast area of historical and artistic interest. From the beauty of an unspoilt landscape to the treasures of the Romanic-lombard period, from peaceful valleys to grand cyles of 15th and 16th century frescoes, from the luxurious 19th century villas to baroque churches and buildings. This territory proposes many opportunities of enjoyment and cultural enrichment for all tastes and demands. All year round there are various traditional and gastronomical festivals, local fairs and sport meetings etc.
